Objective To investigate the expression of CX43 in the epileptic foci of brain tissue of patients with refractory epilepsy and to provide a new idea for clinical research and treatment of refractory epilepsy. Methods Twenty-four patients with intractable epilepsy were enrolled in this study. Six patients with acute traumatic brain injury were selected as the control group. Twenty-five cases of epileptogenic brain tissue were excised. Immunohistochemistry was used to observe the expression of CX43 Compared with the control group. Results Immunohistochemistry showed that the expression of CX43 in experimental group was higher than that in control group (P <0.001). Conclusions The expression of CX43 is increased in the epileptic foci of patients with refractory epilepsy, suggesting that the connexin CX43 is involved in epilepsy and may play an important role in the development of epilepsy.
