Methods The setting of culturally themed curricula and activities in the English language syllabus allows for the explicit implementation of cross-cultural teaching. At the same time, cross-cultural concepts have been implicit in the teaching materials used for teaching purposes. However, in addition to these explicit or implicit means of teaching intercultural communicative competence, the key to understanding the cultural characteristics of language classes lies in the teachers ’attitudes toward the teaching materials and their attitudes toward the students’ backgrounds.
