Foreign railway began to use optical fiber instead of cable for information transmission in the train. For example, the Federal Republic of Germany developed in 1982 a fiber optic self-coupling device mounted on a five-car Berlin-built E79 EMU for the transfer of television signals between vehicles. In September 1982, Japan developed a 4-core optical fiber cable. The optical fiber composite jumper cable, optical composite connector, and photoelectric conversion composite transmission receiver terminal were successively installed in the vehicle for testing on the 200 series EMU of the Yue Hsiu Shinkansen.
