王宁先生的《汉字构形学讲座》一书,对于汉字构形相关问题,譬如:汉字起源、构形、结构次序、构件功能、构形模式、构形系统以及共时认同和历时传承等,无不分别黍累,剖析毫厘,对于汉字构形规律的掌握与汉字教育的推广实施,具有重大的意义与效能。传统的训诂学理论,带给我们一个“中国文字的存在,是形符形式的;中国文字的运用,却是音符形式的;至于中国文字存在的意义,则在于它的表意功能”的印象。因此,长久以来,学者总是特别关注文字的音读与意义之间的关联,并致力于声义同源理论的探求与推衍,因而或有忽略文字形体的表意功能,甚且造成“文字学与训诂学因探讨内容不同而不相关涉”的错误印象。王先生开宗明义地楬橥汉字的表意属性,并强调汉字根据汉语中与之相应的词义来构形的特点,更说明了文字既然是记录音义的载体,当然跟它所记录的音、义有关。换言之,王先生明白地指出:汉字并非以记录音义为职能的拼音文字,而是以音义为构形依据的表意文字。然则可知,汉字形构的研究与文字意义的推求,是息息相关的。也因此,探讨汉字构形理论的文字学与推求文字意义的训诂学,关系当然是密不可分的。不论是谈汉字的性质、汉字的发展或者是汉字的构形系统,王先生的理论,自始至终紧扣着汉字的表意属性与功能。尤其在探讨汉字书写象物性消失的笔势化理据丧失与处理时,王先生更是对汉字构形理论与训诂学之间的关系,做了详赡的说明。对于一个长年投注心力于训诂学教学的工作者而言,深切地感受到王先生的“汉字构形学理论”不只厘清了许多文字学与训诂学上的纠缠和纷争,更是明确地点明了文字学与训诂学之间的依存关联。因此,试为列举实例,说明王先生的“汉字构形理论”在训诂学上的运用,并尝试推阐其效能。
