In 1987, when I was a graduate student of English, I did not know the depth. At the instigation of a few editorial friends, I started to work together with Mr. Wang Xiang to prepare a translation of “God knows”, a novel by American famous novelist Joseph Heller. At that time, Spring Art Press was advocated by Zhang Ying and planned to launch a set of first-class foreign works. “God knows” is one of them. General Chinese readers are not familiar with the name of Heller. He is not like Hemingway, Mark Twain, or Pearl S. Buck, and enjoys a high reputation in the country. Most of Heller’s works reflect the dilemma of modern dilemmas, left nor right or not, as if trapped in mud. However, people still know about the “Twenty-second Military Regulations” published by Heller in the 1960s. At that time, we aimed at “God knows” about thirty thousand words of Heller.
