The advantages and potential applications of non-metallic substrates for high capacity, small disk drives are discussed. Provided some evidence of the effect of the substrate on the reading and writing properties of the magnetic and thin-film media and found that there is a close relationship between the underlying Cr and its crystalline structure with the substrate material used. All of these phenomena are associated with deflation in the vacuum chamber and heating of the substrate. The growth characteristics of different films on non-metallic disks and the reason for the exhibited media properties are also discussed.
