Background From 1985 to 1986, the Reagan administration breached the bans on Congress and secretly sold arms to Iran as a deal to release U.S. hostages from Iran. Some of the proceeds were secretly aided by Nicaraguan rebels. The disclosure of the incident plunges the Reagan administration into a serious political crisis. On November 18, 1987, the final investigation report released by the Special Commission of the United States House of Representatives held that Reagan is fundamentally responsible for the “Iran Gate” incident. In March 1988, a federal jury formally filed a lawsuit against former government officials involved in the “Iran Gate.” From February 16 to February 17, 1990, Reagan testified on a two-day video of the “Iran Gate” incident and still denied his informed consent. People compared this incident with Nixon “Watergate” compared to the “Iranian Gate” incident. The following is the details disclosed by Bob Woodward, the famous American journalist, in his new book.
