对于购买了一亿八千万台电视机的中国观众来说,买电视干什么? 根据中国老百姓通常的认识,大概主要是为了解天下事和看家庭小电影了。老乡们说,把电视机搬进家,就把什么都请来了。1983年,当以中国第一大河长江为题的电视系列片《话说长江》播出时,离长江不远的江苏无锡县向阳村的一位农民给电视台来信:
For Chinese audiences who have purchased 180 million television sets, what is the purpose of buying a TV? According to the common understanding of Chinese people, it is probably mainly for understanding world affairs and watching small family movies. The fellow countrymen said that when the TV was moved into the house, everything was invited. When a television series titled “The Yangtze River” titled the Yangtze River in China’s largest river was broadcast in 1983, a farmer in Xiangyang Village, not far from the Yangtze River in Jiangsu Province, wrote a letter to the television station:
