世界上各国的船级社是国际海运界和造船界独有的一个社会机构。到目前为止,在世界上有20多个主要海运国家设有船级社。主要有英国的劳氏船级社、美国船级社,法国船级社、日本海事协会、西德劳氏船级社和意大利船级社。船级社首先是由于海上保险业的需要,而在英国产生的。十六世纪后半叶,英国的海上贸易日益发展,迎来了它的兴隆时期。
The classification societies of all countries in the world are unique to the international shipping and shipbuilding communities. To date, more than 20 major shipping countries in the world have classification societies. Mainly Lloyd’s Register of the United Kingdom, the American Bureau of Shipping, the French classification society, the Japan Maritime Society, West Lloyd’s Register and the Italian Register of Shipping. Classification societies were first produced in the UK due to the needs of the marine insurance industry. In the second half of the sixteenth century, Britain’s maritime trade was growing day by day and ushered in its booming period.
