中国古代科举制为什么会衰落？我国许多学者将之归结为三条原因，但却缺乏充足的理由，并未抓住其根本。笔者认为，不是在于这一考选制自身走到了绝路，而是在近代中国新旧文化的大转变过程中，随着西方近代科学文化在中国的兴起和传统儒家文化的衰落，而成为了时代的陪葬品。中国科举制所开创的以平等，公开和择优录用政府官员的原则，在今天，对于我们建立现代公务员选拔制度，有重要的借鉴意义，我们理应批判继承这一优秀文化遗产。
Why did the ancient Chinese imperial examination system decline? Many Chinese scholars attributed it to three reasons, but they lack sufficient reasons and did not grasp their fundamental principle. The author believes that it is not because the examination system itself has come to a dead end but has become an era in the great transformation of the old and new cultures in modern China with the rise of Western modern science and culture in China and the decline of the traditional Confucian culture Funeral goods. The principle of equal, open and merit-based recruitment of government officials initiated by the Chinese system of examination by the Chinese government is of great significance to us in establishing the system of selecting civil servants today. We should criticize the succession of this excellent cultural heritage.
