我国著名史学家和教育家,中国共产党党员,第三、五届全国人民代表大会代表,天津市第一、二、三、八、九届人民代表大会代表,天津市政协副主席,中国民主促进会中央委员会委员暨天津市委员会副主任委员,中国史学会主席团执行主席,天津市历史学会理事长,《中国历史大辞典》总编,天津市特等劳动模范,南开大学顾问、明清史研究室主任,《历史教学》编委郑天挺教授,因病不幸于1981年12月20日在天津逝世。
