According to a report in The Guardian newspaper on October 3, 2012, the 2012 BBC Short Stories Award was presented to the author of Bulgarian writer Miroslav Penkov’s (1982-) East of the West). It was the first time that the prize was open to writers outside the UK, and mimic Pankov won a £ 15,000 prize. Born in Bulgaria, M. Pankov moved to the United States in 2011 and holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s in creative writing from the University of Arkansas.
