平遥,是中国目前保存最完整的四座古城之一,但它的风采却与其余的三座古城迥异。西安,使人想起了这里曾是帝王之都;荆州,让人联想到“刘备借荆州”的三国风云;雄踞关外的兴城,昔日曾是明末烽烟四起之地。比较而言,平遥没有那么引人瞩目的历史,但相传这里原是帝尧的封地,史称“古陶”。平遥古城是在西周时代由大将军尹吉甫下令兴建的,此后一直保持原貌。到了明代初年,为了抵御外敌,才在原有基础上加以扩建。时至今日,无论是城墙还是大街小巷,平遥仍然保留了明代县城的风貌——
Pingyao is one of the four most ancient preserved cities in China, but its style is different from the rest of the three ancient cities. Xi’an, reminiscent of here was the emperors capital; Jingzhou, reminiscent of “Liu Bei by Jingzhou” Three Kingdoms; ranked Xingcheng off the customs, the former was the end of the Ming and Qing dynasties everywhere. In comparison, Pingyao did not have such a remarkable history, but according to legend, it was originally here that Emperor Yao’s fiefs were called “ancient pottery.” The ancient city of Pingyao was built under the command of general Yoo Ji-fu during the Western Zhou Dynasty and has remained the same since then. To the early Ming Dynasty, in order to resist foreign enemies, it was expanded on the basis of the original.
