随着用户量的增加和新业务的不断出现,网络上所传输的业务量越来越大。各种接入方式百花齐放,来自底层用户的带宽需求非常强劲,汇集到网络上,形成了巨大而且是“流动”的带宽需求,这一切对现有的传输网络构成了巨大的压力。传统SDH/Sonet网络固定上下带宽的方式在这种压力面前显得捉襟见肘。面对这种局面,阿尔卡特提出了智能光网络的概念,其核心是BonD (Bandwidth on Demond,按需提供带宽)。主要的带宽需求量是由互联网带来的,BonD意味着在面对实时改变的业务量时,由路由设备向传输设备发送指令,提出带宽需求,而传输设备能够“聪明”地分配相应的带宽给它。当然,这样的传输网络必须拥有统一的网管系统,进行端到端的管理,并且具有很好的保护和恢复的能力。
