In recent years, home networking is becoming a hot topic in the computing world, and the concept of connecting two or more personal computers and sharing resources has become more and more popular. Potentially huge markets have inspired countless vendors to join the competition, with thousands of consumers installing cheap and simple web tools at home. All this is just the beginning of a home network where software and system vendors, including Microsoft, IBM, and a few telecoms companies are determined to connect all the appliances to the home network. In fact, IBM has begun selling its Home Director System to newly built homes for real estate developers, which use computers to control power outlets and switches. Microsoft is developing a new product that enables home computers and information appliances to share resources across the network. The HomeRF team will roll out the HomeRF standard by the end of this year, but it will only consider networked computers and peripherals in the home.
