Currently, the U.S. Department of Army Health and Medical Services (AMEDD) is developing a new aircraft system to enhance future evacuation medical support, the C-212 High Performance Ambulance (HCAA). This is a new type of ambulance machine following the new UH-60Q “Black Hawk” ambulance helicopter. Will have a significant impact on the battlefield ambulances in the end of this century and in the 21st century, so that air ambulance service can be advanced to a completely new stage. 1 AIRCRAFT SELECTION AND REQUIREMENTS The need for a high performance ambulance was first and foremost emphasized by the 82nd Airborne Division and the 18th Health Command, using vertical and oth- erships that provide for evacuation and air ambulance for 12-18 sick and wounded Drop (VSTOL) aircraft. This idea stems from the battlefield commander’s request for airlift during the desert storm.
