自改革开放以来至 １９９６年底，台商在大陆的投资项目达３５４７１个，协议投资金额为 ３５３５７亿美元，实际投资金额为１５０．８６亿美元．台商在大陆的经营项目已经从属于劳动密集型的第三次加工产业为主转变为属于金融服务业的资本经营型．另就制造业投资发展而言，台商在大陆投资由三次加工产业已逐步升级为二次加工产业、三次加工产业．但台商投资分布极不均匀，投资地区大多在沿海地区，内陆多为重点城市．随着祖国大陆社会经济发展，祖国大陆对外来投资的选择性增强，以及有关环境保护政策的制订与实施、沿海劳动力成本的提高，尤其是面对国际竞争的压力，台商企业应充分利用血脉相连的身份优势，争取政府的政策扶持，开发和扩展西部市场，迅速实现产业升级，组建战略联盟，以取得在市场竞争中的优势地位．
