南亭长老在讲说华严经义,阐述华严宗理的同时,也非常注重对中国传统孝道的弘扬。南亭长老在讲说佛教的各种经典时,经常就其中涉及孝道的地方加以适当的发挥,使中国传统孝道的意蕴得到一定的阐发。南亭长老曾应邀到台北监狱弘法,面对这样一群特殊的听众,南亭长老向他们弘扬的还是孝道。作为智光商工学校的创办人,南亭长老每周坚持为该校学生上德育课。他自编的课本,除了以点滴渗透的方式弘扬孝道之外,还设有“佛教与伦理”等课专门探讨佛教与孝道之间的关系。南亭长老等一批高僧大德弘扬孝道,在一定程度上具有了维持其未坠之绪的意味,而佛教在维持中国文化传承不绝方面的重大作用也由此可见一斑。 Nanting elders in the description of Huanyan Jingyi, Hualongzong Li explained at the same time, also attaches great importance to the promotion of traditional Chinese filial piety.
