The Hong Kong BSA (Business Software Alliance) recently took unprecedented actions to sue 22 retailers of computer software located in the gold shopping mall in Sham Shui Po, Hong Kong. “No one of the businessmen suspected of engaging in illegal software sales attended the court hearing. This incident fully shows that these businessmen are mostly dismissive of the law,” said Ms. Gao Weili, the BSA vice president, in a letter to Governor Patten of Hong Kong. “Hong Kong has become the most rampant region for software piracy in Asia. The Business Software Alliance and the entire software industry are very worried and confused about Hong Kong authorities’ inability or reluctance to rectify this area.”
