为全面贯彻教育方针,彻底变应试教育为素质教育,有效地提高小学和初中教育的整体质量,1982年,我们开始对苏州市区初中招生制度改革进行积极的探索,1984年取消初中招生考试,改由各区组织毕业会考,除两所重点中学先行择优录取外,其余30余所中学均实行就近入学。1987年取消重点初中,全部实行就近入学。1990年取消各区毕业会考,由学校自行命题组织毕业考试。
