The jade cong-tube was one of the most important ceremonial paraphernalia in ancient China. This paper discusses its origins, uses and other things. It proposes that the cong-tube was invented by imitating the form of well to worship the earth and seek for water. In the light of its location in tombs , the author believes that the cong-tube was an offering to the dead. As an offering, it was thought to play an important role in keeping the soul alive.
