2013年10月19日,由中国美术家协会、中国国家画院、人民大会堂事务管理局、陕西省委宣传部主办的王西京为人民大会堂创作暨捐赠巨作《黄河,母亲河》座谈会在北京人民大会堂陕西厅揭开帷幕。此前,陕西省美协主席王西京应中央办公厅、北京人民大会堂管理局之邀,为人民大会堂金色大厅创作了巨幅山水画《黄河,母亲河》,现悬挂于金色大厅的南墙面上。这幅画长18米,高3.72米,前后历经9个月的构思创作,于今年9月完成,是王西京继为大明宫国家遗址公园创作的《黄河揽胜》大型山水画题材之后的又一巨制。《黄河,母亲河》采用了写实与笔墨相结合、现实主义与浪漫主义相结合的表现方式,从一百多幅
