X-ray photography has been successfully applied to provide permanent photographs of the growth, development and maturation of rape cedar. The film or photograph taken with X-rays clearly shows the shape and size of the rape cedar and the number and growth of the rapeseed in various sizes of pods. Films, softwoods and seeds contained therein are clearly visible with soft X-rays (long-wave X-rays) but have a longer exposure time than hard X-rays (shortwave X-rays). Therefore, hard X-rays are suitable for shooting a large number of mature pods at harvest, while soft X-rays are useful for shooting immature young pods. This paper describes and discusses the operation of these two methods and the results obtained.
