A senior U.S. Department of Defense official recently disclosed that the U.S. Defense Department has repeatedly used a number of Inmarsat satellites to complete a series of military operations. When it dispatched troops to Panama in December 1989, the United States used the IMO satellite to promptly send relevant electronic images to the users concerned. The United States also used the satellite to transmit relevant exercise images during the “Thunder” joint military exercise conducted by the United States and Saudi Arabia in November 1990. More recently, the United States used the satellite once again to transmit still images of United States forces-related activities during operations such as “Desert Shield” and “Desert Storm.” Inmarsat has 63 member states that operate over 22,000 miles above Earth
