This Passivhaus building on Molkerei Street is an internationally recognized example of sustainable architecture and a pioneering project for 21st century architecture. Through the joint design of several international firms, the ideal combination of energy efficiency, user comfort and architectural aesthetics are combined into a coherent and integrated architectural concept. The results of this assessment show that households are highly recognized for the building and also demonstrate its comfort, energy saving performance and contribution to the environment. Through this monitoring, we gained valuable experience available for future architectural design and suggested improvements to the next generation of Passivhaus building standards. The Passivhaus student residence on the Molkerei Boulevard in Vienna was the largest Passivhaus building in the world when it opened in September 2005. The resource-oriented working group, consisting of the Vienna University of Land Culture (BOKU) and the “Housing”, “Construction” and “Planning” Research Institutes (FGWs), conducted an independent assessment of the student residence, Its superior energy efficiency and living comfort. The experiment was carried out at the request of Günther Jedliczka, the student dormitory manager and head of the Living Space Administration (AFD) of the Austrian Exchange Service Center, supported by the Residential Building Research Office in Vienna. Vienna is the most densely populated Passivhaus in the world and has many more experienced experts in Passivhaus technology. The government states that from 2015 all new homes should meet the Passivhaus standard. The starting point of the Passivhaus philosophy is to provide a more comfortable use environment and increase the efficiency of energy use within a reasonable increase of construction costs. The goal of the study was to try to build a realistic, large-scale, Passivhaus building that meets the requirements of sustainable development.
