悲惨的过去我国各个少数民族的手工業生产,正像我們古老的国家一样,有着悠久的历史。新疆和闐的雕玉、庫車的利刃、拜城的銅器、云南的大理石,远在唐代已开始經营;内蒙古的栽絨地毯、海南黎族的紡織、广西的僮錦、貴州独山的鹽酸,也有几百年的历史了。这种手工業生产,不仅表现了我国少数民族的勤劳和智慧,同时也反映了他们的丰富多彩的生活。在当时,許多手工業产品一方面解决了本民族的生活需要和生产需要,一方面也繁荣了商業市埸,暢銷国内各地,甚至远銷国外。
