China’s food industry has witnessed rapid development in the past 30 years. The output value in the first half of 2011 was 3.5 trillion yuan, an increase of over 30%. Behind this great achievement, China’s food industry is facing five major challenges: 1. The “crisis of confidence” in industrial food caused by food safety is aggravating; 2. The price of raw materials driven by food security has risen in an all-round way; The food structure and the industrial restructuring which are affected by nutrition security are still not in place; 4, the homogenization competition brought by the lack of innovation has intensified, and the value of some industries has dropped; 5.
