The American Manufacturing Technology Association (AMT) and the American Machine Tool Distributors Association (AMTDA) jointly made statistics on the consumption of machine tools in the United States: In 1997, the number of metal cutting machine tools sold was 35,400 units, an increase of 11.9% over the previous year; the sales amount was 4.944 billion. The dollar increased by 32.9% over the previous year. The number of machine tools and the amount of money showed a significant increase. As a major user of the automotive and aerospace industries, equipment investment has increased substantially in recent years.
