The NASA website reported on March 15 that the 15th anniversary of the launching was ushered in by the mission of the United States-Germany Cooperative’s Gravity Survey and Climate Experiment (GRACE). Launched on 17 March 2002, GRACE pioneered a new area in space remote sensing - tracking water movement and obtaining scientific data that has changed scientists’ perceptions of water movement and storage on Earth. The key findings made so far by GRACE are as follows. (1) groundwater consumption is exacerbated. Researchers at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) used GRACE to study the consumption of groundwater and found that groundwater extraction has been increasing in the past decade.
