As a measure of the quality of translation of the traditional standard, “loyalty ” is the pursuit of many translators and translators. However, Stephen Mitchell’s “English version of the Tao Te Ching” has a large number of “unfaithful” translations. Nevertheless, it is very popular with many readers in the United States. From a translational point of view, this is mainly due to Stephen Mitchell’s linguistic accomplishments and the translation methods he uses to popularize translations, such as Zen, Simplicity, Modernization and Westernization. The discussion of the value and meaning of popular translations in intercultural communication also provides a new perspective for understanding and evaluating such “unfaithful” translations.
