郑州—宝鸡段电气化技术改造工程全长672.80复线公里。按照“分期建设,分段受益”的原则,郑州—三门峡西268复线公里为第一施工段,1985年10月正式动工,翌年12月31日建成通车。第二施工段由三门峡西一西安东,全长234km,1987年4月动工,翌年5月建成。1988年底又建成并开通了西安东—宝鸡东电气化铁路。至此,连同1984年通车的宝鸡—兰州电气化铁路,全长1187km的西陇海线
