As of the end of 1979, the number of registered physicians in Japan was 150,299, and there were 129.4 physicians per 100,000 population. With unregistered, there are approximately 159,000 physicians nationwide and 137 physicians per 100,000 population. The original goal of the Ministry of Health and Welfare was to have 150 physicians per 100,000 population by 1985. According to this situation, this goal could be reached by 1985 and there will be 190 physicians per 100,000 population by 1995. The classification of the work performed by these physicians was: 61,314 (40.8%) were clinics opened, 46,859 (31.2%) were working in hospitals (excluding medical education department affiliated units),
