津味市井小说在演绎市井闾巷小人物求生故事的同时,也塑造了在近代中国历史上占有举足轻重地位的大天津,它是从外在物理空间到内在文化格局体现出来的城市形象。作家对此进行了城市地理构图和细节还原,并充分挖掘了城市地理的历史文化隐喻功能。旧天津市民生存至上的市井价值观尤为被关注,这种来源于中国民间的健康良知和俗世生活情趣在近代中国城市商品经济快速发展的背景下成为市民的精神操守,是旧天津在封建势力、军阀和西方殖民主义作用下的城市文化沉淀,带有强烈的时代特征和地域文化色彩。
