通过对《汉书·匈奴传》与《史记·匈奴列传》的对校，可以发现班固较之司马迁在民族关系史料的处理上，有一定的补正之功，但其间更为明显地存在着以改字、移句、删节等手法来损伤史料，斥责匈奴的欠妥之举。笔者认为班固成段地补入征服异族以显中兴之业的载记，其原因不仅仅是因为史家撰写意向不一所致，主要是由于以实力对比为基础的汉朝对匈奴的基本政策发生了根本变化所使然。文章再次强调史载要真实，史家应客观公正。
