Serum levels of TNFα and IL-6 in 30 patients with HBV and HCV co-infection were significantly higher than those with HBV or HCV infection by double-antibody sandwich assay, and were positively correlated with serum TBil levels. The levels of these two cytokines in patients with death were significantly higher For survivors. It is suggested that the increase of TNFα and IL-6 may be one of the important factors that lead to severe illness and poor prognosis of HBV and HCV overlap infection, and can be used as an effective index to measure the change of disease and prognosis.
