Adenosine deaminase (ADA) is primarily an enzyme involved in the intracellular trafficking and utilization of purine nucleosides. Hereditary lack of this enzyme, humoral and cellular immunity were defective and presented a serious joint immunodeficiency status. Many studies show that ADA is crucial for the maturation and function of lymphocytes, especially T cells. ADA-specific inhibitors artificially cause ADA-deficient lymphocytes to lose their response to mitogens and their ability to reject allografts. ADA inhibitors also affect monocyte maturation but do not understand the role of ADA in monocyte or macrophage functional activation. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the correlation between the function of guinea pig peritoneal macrophages and ADA activity.
