举世瞩目的青藏铁路在党中央、国务院的亲切关怀下,于2001年6月29日正式开工。 青藏铁路是我国西部大开发的标志性工程,是人类铁路建设史上的伟大壮举。青藏铁路格尔木至拉萨段全长1142公里,其中海拔4000米以上地段960公里,翻越唐古拉山的铁路最高点海拔5072米,是世界上海拔最高、线路最长的高原铁路。沿线高原缺氧,生态脆弱,地质复杂,经过连续多年冻土地段550公里,技术难度很大,工程十分艰巨。它的修建,将在青藏高原开辟一条经济、快速、大能力、全天候的运输通道,从根本上改变西藏自治区交通滞后的状况,对促进青藏两省区经济和社会发展,增进东西部文化交流造福沿线各族人民,具有重要意义。
