文化广场是上海人民政治文化活动的重要场所之一,是本市召开万人以上大会的一所室内会场,兼供演出之用。主体建筑于1970年进行了全面的复建。由同济大学,上海市规划建筑设计院等单位组成工人、干部,技术人员参加的现场三结合设计小组,进行了认真设计。通过市建工局所属施工单位以及有关工厂的共同努力,经三个月的日夜奋战,于建国21周年前夕,胜利地完成了这一复建工程。 广场这块地方,解放前原是帝国主义用来诈骗中国人民财富的一窝大赌窟——“逸园跑狗场”。解放后,1952年曾利用旧有看台进行改建,使广场成为群众集会和文艺演
Cultural Square is one of the important venues for the people’s political and cultural activities in Shanghai. It is an indoor meeting place where the city holds more than 10,000 people. It is also used for performances. The main building was completely restored in 1970. The three-in-one design team, consisting of workers, cadres and technicians from Tongji University, Shanghai Planning and Design Institute, and other technical personnel, has been carefully designed. Through the joint efforts of the construction unit of the municipal construction bureau and related factories, after three months of hard work day and night, on the eve of the 21st anniversary of Jianguo, this reconstruction project was successfully completed. This place in the plaza was originally a large gamble pit used by imperialism to defraud Chinese people’s wealth before the liberation—“Yi Yuan Run Dog Farm”. After the liberation, in 1952, the old stands were used for reconstruction, making the square a mass gathering and a cultural performance.
