中华民族数千年的悠久历史,孕育了中国人民伟大而深厚的爱国主义传统。顾炎武的名言“天下兴亡,匹夫有责”,就是这种爱国主义传统的优秀结晶,岳飞、文天祥等民族英雄,就是千百万爱国志士的杰出代表。鸦片战争时期,世界上最强大的资本主义国家英国先是试图通过罪恶的鸦片贸易来敲开中国大门,继而又依仗海上军事力量发动了侵略中国的战争。英国侵略者的鸦片和大炮,威胁着古老中国的独立和生存。在这关键时刻,传统的爱国主义成为中华民族同心抗敌的强大凝聚力量。并且,主要是由于时代的原因,中国人民在弘扬爱国主义传统的同时,还赋予爱国主义一些新的内容,使爱国主义精神升华到一个新的高度。
The long history of the Chinese nation for thousands of years has given birth to the great and profound tradition of patriotism of the Chinese people. Gu Yanwu’s famous saying, “The rise and fall of the world, every man has the responsibility,” is the excellent crystallization of this patriotic tradition. The national heroes such as Yue Fei and Wen Tianxiang are outstanding representatives of millions of patriots. During the Opium War, Britain, the most powerful capitalist country in the world, first tried to knock China on its doorstep through sinful opium trade and then started a war against China by relying on maritime military forces. The opium and artillery of the British invaders threaten the independence and survival of ancient China. At this crucial moment, traditional patriotism has become a powerful cohesive force for the Chinese nation to contented each other and oppose the enemy. And, mainly because of the times, the Chinese people, while carrying forward the tradition of patriotism, have given patriotism some new content and have sublimated the spirit of patriotism to a new height.
