The Bonaparte Basin, Australia, is rich in natural gas but does not know much about its main controlling factors and exploration potential. To study the petroleum geological conditions and oil and gas distribution rules in the basin to clarify the main controlling factors of hydrocarbon accumulation and future exploration directions. The results show that oil and gas in the Bonaparte Basin is unevenly distributed in the plane, mainly in the middle and large-sized gas fields in the east and mainly in the medium and small-sized oil fields in the west of the Bonaparte Basin. The type, maturity and preservation conditions of hydrocarbon generating parent materials in the main source rocks are controlled The type of oil and gas resources; the western structure suffered the late destruction, the adjustment led to its reservoir size is small, the intensification of the eastern tectonic activity led to a larger gas reservoir; preservation conditions are the main reservoir of the oil-gas reservoirs in the Vulkan reservoirs; storage The layer quality is the main controlling factor of the hydrocarbon accumulation in the Qaidar graben. The trap conditions are the main controlling factors of hydrocarbon accumulation in the eastern slope of the basin. Meso-small structural traps, fault-related traps, lithologic traps and traps associated with (oiled) salt rocks are favorable targets for exploration in the future and have broad exploration prospects.
