改革开放以来，山西的图书出版工作进入了前所未有的兴旺繁荣时期，经过拨乱反正，解放思想，认真贯彻“为人民服务，为社会主义服务”的出版方针，贯彻地方出版社“立足本省，面向全国，走向世界”的工作指导思想，山西的图书出版事业得到了迅速的发展，呈现出一派生机勃勃的繁荣景象。到１９９４年，出版社由１９８４年的１家，发展到８家，年出书品种达千余种。山西的出版事业已经初步形成了布局和专业分工合理，门类和品种档次齐全，宏观放开微观搞活的发展格局，出版了一批在全国堪称一流的优秀图书，山西图书出版界也在全国乃至世界声誉鹊起。总结过去不仅仅是为了纪念，本着拓展未来的精神，山西省新闻出版局及山西省出版工作者协会诚邀山西图书出版界业内人士畅谈改革开放２０年来山西图书出版界取得的成绩，这些不可磨灭的贡献都是尤为值得我们骄傲的。但是，作为后来者，我们理应站在更高的起点上。
