Objective: To analyze the epidemic characteristics of influenza (influenza) and the dominant strains of influenza virus from 2004 to 2008 in Hebei Province and provide a scientific basis for the prevention and treatment of influenza. Methods: Throat swabs were collected from Influenza Like Illness (ILI) during the influenza season. Influenza virus was isolated from Madin Darby Canine Kidney (MDCK) cells and identified by Hemagglutination Inhibition (HI) Type. Results: From October 2004 to March 2008, 3179 samples of ILI throat swabs were collected and 288 strains of influenza virus were isolated. Among them, 78 strains of A (H1N1) serotypes were identified, accounting for 27.08%, A (H3N2) 113 strains (39.24%), 36 strains of B-Victoria strains (12.50%) and 61 strains of B-Yamagata strains (21.18%). Influenza A (H3N2) virus predominates during the epidemic period of 2004-2005 and the epidemic period of 2006-2007. Influenza A (H1N1) virus predominates during the epidemic period from 2005 to 2006, and prevails in 2007-2008 The predominant epidemic strain was B-Yamagata influenza virus. Except for the epidemic period from 2005 to 2006, the peak period of influenza virus in our province was in January. Conclusion: The epidemic of influenza virus in Hebei Province was obviously seasonal with peak incidence in January. Influenza strains A (H1N1), A (H3N2) subtypes and B-Victoria and B-Yamagata strains were alternated in infected population. The strains are constantly changing.
