Discovery of Indian Graves a Mixed Blessing
The chance discovery of a seventeenth-century Indian grave site is an exciting find for archeologists but a nuisance for Sally Jones. The burial ground, believed to have been used between 1620 and 1630, was uncovered by construction workers excavating(挖掘, 开凿) for Jones’ new house. It means her house will have to wait.
Peter Carruthers, an archeologist, estimated(估计) the age of the grave site from the condition of the bones, the pattern of burial, and the buried materials uncovered so far. He believes the graves were used by the now-extinct(灭绝的) Neutral tribe, which had dozens of villages scattered throughout southern Ontario.
They were dubbed (把……称为) “the Neutrals” by the French settlers in North America because they managed to stay at peace while other tribes waged wars in the territories around them. The Neutrals were all killed by the Iroquois in 1650, and there is little record of their history except for archeological material excavated during the last ten years.

James had a terrible toothache. It kept him awake all night. His cheek was swollen(肿的) and it was difficult for him to eat or drink. Anything very hot or cold made the toothache worse. If James ate anything sweet, the pain would be un-bearable. James did not want to take time off from work, so he tried to bear the pain. He took a pain-killer every hour. However, the tooth hurt so much when he tried to eat his lunch that he knew he had to go to the dentist’s. He asked his boss for time off.
