社会主义精神文明,是社会主义的重要特征和不可缺少的重要组成部分,也是改革开放和现代化建设的重要保证。江泽民同志指出:物质文明建设和精神文明建设是相辅相成的,谁也离不开谁。如果只强调抓经济建设,忽视和放松精神文明建设,不仅会影响社会的全面进步,而且经济也很难搞上去。实行改革开放,打开国门,带来了许多先进的东西,推动了经济的发展和社会的进步,但也带来了一些腐朽、丑恶的东西。同样,发展市场经济,有力的促进了生产力的发展,我国的国民经济和人民的物质生活水平得以迅速提高,但市场经济在创造巨大的物质财富的同时,也诱使一些人唯利是图,损公肥私。这些问题不解决,建设有中国特色社会主义的伟大事业就不可能取得成功。对此,邓小平同志早在1979年时就指出:“经济建设这一手我们搞得相当有成绩,形势喜人,这是我们国家的成功。但如果风气坏下去,经济搞成功又有什么意义?会在另一方面变质,反过来影响整个经济变质,发展下去会形成贪污、盗窃、贿赂横行的世界。”所以,必须坚持“两手抓、两手硬”的方针,把精神文明建设的各项任务落到实处,促进两个文明的协调发展。
