The article discusses that the adverbial clauses at the beginning of a sentence constitute a very different type of syntactic structure and clarifies that this structural feature helps to explain the relationship between sentence position, textual organization function and subordinate structure. Specifically, the first adverbial clause has two structural parameters: one is related to the internal structure of the adverbial clause, and the other is the effect of the adverbial clause on the main clause. It also states that these features explain why the sentence position is closely related to the function of discourse organization and why it is used as a criterion for determining subordination.
