Based on the measured data, this paper analyzes the years of changes in annual average sea level over the coast of Guangdong, and finds that the average annual sea level in 1963 is 8-11cm lower than the average annual average, which is the lowest year since the founding of the People’s Republic. The reason for the unusually low sea level of the year - mainly due to the anomalies of the general circulation of the atmosphere rather than the effects of tectonic movements or intersections. The anomalous atmospheric circulation led to significantly less rainfall in the South China Sea and inflow of the Pearl River in that year, more evaporation of sea water, and an increase in the density of seawater, which resulted in the decrease of sea level. The year 1963 was a strong E1-Nino year. The sea level in the tropical Northwest Pacific region was significantly lower than that of the normal years (especially in the second half of the year), and it also had an impact on sea level changes along the coast of Guangdong.
