The research team at the Japan Institute of Chemistry and Chemistry reports in the American journal Cell Stem Cells that they successfully cultured three-dimensional retinal tissue using human embryonic stem cells. Researchers have previously developed culture techniques that allow cell clumps to float in culture and spontaneously create complex structures.
