席:雷曼教授您是资深的设计教育家,这次你来中国也是来教学的,请谈谈你是如何教学的?雷:我来中国不是告诉你们应该如何教学,因为中西观念的差异,我只是告诉你们我们是如何教学的,介绍我们的想法、经验、设计方法论、设计原理、设计哲学思想等等,西方的教育主要是教导学生“做”和“实践”,由老师指导学生入门,学生自行实践,最后与导师交流实践经验。而在中国,一般是老师站在讲台上指挥学生要怎样做,西方注重的是师生平等交流,教授学生的只是设计基础和方法论,培养学生自学的能力。随着科技的日新月异,风格的变化也越来越快,但是设计基础却是相对恒定的,如果一个学生的设计基础很牢固的话,他将非常有发展前途。

Ray: I came to China is not to tell you how to teach, because the difference between Chinese and Western concepts, I just tell you how we teach, introduce our ideas, experiences, design methodology, design principles, design philosophy and so on, the Western education is mainly to teach students to “do” and “practice” by the teacher to guide students to get started, Students practice on their own, and finally exchange practical experience with mentors. In China, it is common for teachers to command students on the podium to do what they want. In the West, teachers and students pay equal attention to communication. Teaching students only serves as a basis for design and methodology and fosters students’ ability to learn by themselves. With the ever-changing technology, the style changes faster and faster, but the design basis is relatively constant, if a student’s design foundation is very strong, he will be very promising.
