Maori are indigenous people in New Zealand. They came to New Zealand in the tenth century, lived on this land for nearly a thousand years, and used brilliant labor and wisdom to create a culture. Today, Maori, who make up less than 10% of New Zealand’s population, still admire and inherit the ancestral cultural heritage and traditional customs, despite great changes in their way of life. Ancient Maori music, like the anthem, melody smooth, beautiful melody. But little change, no harmony and certain programs. Some songs are based on religion for the purpose of prayer, longer chants sung by two people. This kind of song pays more attention to the lyrics, some traces the history of the tribe or describes the folk legend, while others express the feelings of the people.
