After 350 years of slow development, the world publishing industry was finally pushed into the fast lane. Cloud computing and ubiquitous sharing completely changed the traditional nature of publishing. The result is fermentation: the existing practices are facing new challenges. In this respect, the United States and Britain have the most attention. Last month, U.S. President Barack Obama announced that government-funded research papers should be available to the public free of charge within 12 months of publication. Starting from April 1, the British research institutes will require all government-funded research results to be made public to the public. In this context, the publishing industry will soon be showing a constantly changing landscape.
